1) What was your main goal in building/renovating your Rec Room? (i.e.: to build a home theatre, great sound, a home bar or wine cellar or adding value to your home?)

int_morephotos_01.gifOur main goal was to have an area that would be suitable for entertaining both family and friends. Our children are also getting to the age where they want to “hang out” with their friends a lot and we would rather them “hang out” at home then somewhere else.

 2) Was the room initially a finished or unfinished space?

The room was partially finished. A year before our rec room renovations we put 2 additions on upstairs and we decided to dig out in the basement so we could have more room downstairs. That is were we put the theatre room and the wine cellar.

3) Did you use an architect or a designer, or did you plan the room yourself?

We planned it ourselves.

4) Did you hire a contractor or was this a do-it-yourself project?

Both – we had a contractor help us with the theatre room and the lay out of it. With the rest, Rob works in the trade field and knows a lot of different people who helped put the rec room together nicely.

5) How long did your Great Rec Room project take to complete?

About 6 months.

6) What was the total cost of your project? How did the final/actual budget compare with your planned budget /

The total cost was around $110,000.00 -we were over by about 10%.

7) What was the single most expensive item in your project?

The theatre equipment was the most expensive items in our project.

8) What is your favorite part or item in your new Great Rec room?

Rob – theatre room
Angela – all of it!

9) What is the best way, or your favorite way, to show off your new Great Rec Room?(throwing a party, playing pool, playing a DVD)

All of the above.

10) What is the one key piece of advice you would offer to others thinking about the same kind of project?

Get together with everyone in the family and discuss what you would all like to have in the rec room and then write down your ideas. Everyone in the family may have different reasons for using the rec room and it is important that everyone gets to enjoy it.
