Term: SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc)
(see DVD-Audio, above) a high-resolution digital multichannel audio standard developed by Sony/Philips that uses DSD (Direct Stream Digital) audio encoding. You’ll need a bundled, shielded 6-cable RCA connector set to play back SACD to the A/V receiver as well as an SACD-compatible DVD player. Most inexpensive (less than $150) DVD players will not play SACD or DVD-Audio discs. Only “Universal” DVD players will play these formats as well as conventional DVDs and CDs.
