See photos of this Great Rec Room1) What was your main goal in building/renovating your Rec Room?

To creat more room for the kids to play; and a pool room for Dad!

2) Was the room initially a finished or unfinished space?

One half of the basement had been finished and the other half was unfinished.  The half that had been finished had been done by the previous owner with rather poor workmanship.

3) Did you use an architect or a designer, or did you plan the room yourself?

Planned the room myself

4) Did you hire a contractor or was this a do-it-yourself project?

Hired a contractor to complete the project.

5) How long did your Great Rec Room project take to complete?

About 2 months.

6) What was the total cost of your project? How did the final/actual budget compare with your planned budget ?

Around $39,000 Canadian.

7) What was the single most expensive item in your project?
The wet bar.

8) What is your favorite part or item in your new Great Rec room?
Built-in cabinets and bar.

9) What is the best way, or your favorite way, to show off your new Great Rec Room?

Throwing a party or playing pool. Turning on the Home Theatre system and playing a HD DVD always gets a 'WOW'.

10) What is the one key piece of advice you would offer to others thinking about the same kind of project?

Go for as much natural light as you can.  We installed a large portrait window (see photos) to replace our standard, small basement window.

Spend time and money on quality “finishing” touches (e.g. bigger baseboards, carpentry, lighting)
