"The passion of word and song, of fresh, flavorful foods, velvety stouts, lagers and ales, fine wines and high spirits; such, define the public houses of Britain - the pubs - having long been the hub of the community, and to experience this atmosphere is to bask in it. But to have one in your own home. ...a noble triumph!

Pub Concepts has been designing and building British Style Pubs in the Greater Toronto Area for over 15 years and have now begun to offer this experience to homeowners looking to capture the magic of a British Pub – in their own home.

What does Pub Concepts do?

In addition to designing and building over 50 British style Pubs, the team at Pub Concepts have been building home bars from smaller four stool bars to complete in house Pubs.

“We are responding to the numerous requests we get asking if smaller scale versions of our pubs could be built in private homes as more and more homeowners look at different ways to add features and values to their homes.” Doug Ranch of Pub Concepts

How does a pub fit in a home?  “Over the past few years we have taken full basements and created a complete British Pub look, and in some cases have simply taken a portion of the basement space and created a bar that captures much of the British pub look.”

What’s involved?  “Our designers and craftsmen study the space we have to work with and after understanding the owners objectives and goals we begin to design the bar itself.

The owners’ plans for their bar is key in the design.  We want to know how they plan to use the bar. Is it part of a bigger room that encompasses entertainment centers with big TV’s etc. Will they be hosting big parties regularly, do they want draft beer, do we need to create space for a wine cellar etc.

That information coupled with the opportunities – and challenges - of the space itself allows us to create renderings of what the space can look like.”

Is it expensive?  “Every bar/pub that we build is different – we have built pubs and bars in private homes for prices that range from $10,000 to $40,000. The quality of the work is always the same high standard that we pride ourselves on – the price varies based on the size, design and materials used to create the homeowners dream pub.”
